The basics.

YIMUN 2026 at a glance.

What is YIMUN, exactly?

YIMUN is the flagship Model UN convocation of Youth Impacts. It's a three-day leadership training program — not just a debate competition. Delegates train under chairs in five core disciplines (public speaking, negotiation, resolution drafting, diplomatic communication and leadership under pressure), debate in the United Nations General Assembly, and visit the actual UN Headquarters.

When and where?

14–16 August 2026. Sessions are held on the campus of Hofstra University in New York. The Day-2 official UN visit is at the United Nations Headquarters in Manhattan.

Who can apply?

Both high school and university students worldwide. Awards are presented separately for each track. There's no minimum MUN experience — beginners are welcome and judged within their cohort. Applicants should be 14+ at the start of the convocation.

How many delegates do you accept?

We intentionally keep the cohort small. The exact cap varies year to year, but the rule is the same: every delegate gets meaningful speaking time, real mentorship and personalised feedback. Quality over quantity is not a slogan for us — it's the operating constraint.

Why only one committee?

Because focus produces depth. With every delegation in a single United Nations General Assembly chamber, you get a more authentic, more intense, and far more realistic UN simulation than you'd get split across five smaller rooms.

How does the application process work?

Submit the application of interest on our Apply page. Our admissions team responds within 72 hours. If invited forward, you'll confirm your seat with the delegate fee, after which you receive your country & track assignment.

What does the delegate fee cover?

The fee covers all training workshops, committee sessions, the official UN Headquarters visit, the welcome dinner, the social night, the closing ceremony, the New York City tour, and the certificate of participation. Travel and lodging are not included, but admitted delegates receive a recommended-accommodation list with negotiated rates.

Is financial aid available?

Yes — a limited number of need-based scholarships are available. Indicate interest on the application form and admissions will follow up with the full process.

Can I apply with friends or as a delegation?

Yes. School and university delegations of any size are welcome. Submit individual applications and note your school in the institution field — admissions will keep the delegation together where possible.

While you're there.

Logistics, comfort and conduct.

Where will I stay?

Accommodation is not included in the delegate fee, but admitted delegates receive a recommended-accommodation list with negotiated rates — including options on or near Hofstra's campus.

What's the dress code?

Western Business Attire for committee sessions and the UN visit. Smart casual for the welcome dinner and the NYC tour. Cocktail / smart formal for the social night and closing ceremony.

Do I need a visa to attend?

International delegates are responsible for their own visas. Admissions will issue a formal letter of acceptance to support visa applications. We recommend starting the visa process as soon as you're admitted.

What's expected in terms of conduct?

Delegates are expected to behave with the courtesy, restraint and seriousness of real diplomats — respect for chairs, respect for one another, and zero tolerance for harassment or discrimination of any kind. The full code of conduct is shared with admitted delegates in the onboarding pack.

What if I've never done MUN before?

You'll be in good company. A meaningful share of every YIMUN cohort is first-time delegates. The training program is designed exactly for this — by the end of Day 1 you'll have practised public speaking, negotiation and the diplomatic register before stepping into committee.
